Losing some Strands

Every week I have at least one client men and women that are concern that they are losing their hair. They notice some kind of thinning or clumps of hair coming out in the shower.  Naturally, we lose about 80 to 100 hair strands per day.  Women if you don't wash and brush your hair everyday you will see more hair fall out.  It builds up until you wash.  Some reasons for hair loss:  genetic (runs in the family), pregnancy, stress, fatigue, change of eating habits, medication, any of these can contribute to hair loss.  For men, it is mostly genetic and as men age their hairline starts to recede.  Now there are some men who are lucky and will never come across this issue.

There are many options to help keep your hair.  One of the things to consider is to keep your scalp clean.  A lot of times a weak scalp will weaken the hair follicles and in turn hair becomes thin and falls out.  A product I highly recommend is Rene Furterer's Complexe 5.  Complexe 5 will stimulate, deep clean, and tone the scalp.  It's used as a part of a treatment for thinning or hair loss.  I love the essential oils in this product.

If you find that you need a treatment you can use either:

RF-80: Intended for reactional hair loss, mainly found in women, related to stress, fatigue or postpartum.
RF 80 treats hair loss and stimulates hair regrowth.
Triphasic: Intended to treat hormonal and hereditary hair loss, mainly found in men.
Triphasic treats hair loss and stimulates hair regrowth.

Now if you are born with fine hair that's limp and doesn't carry any volume you can use:

Rene Furterer's Volumea:
Gives body and texture for fine hair, that lacks volume.
Natural Carob extract is derived from the Carob tree, native to the Mediterranean Bassin. This active ingredient adheres to the hair from roots to ends to create volume. Visibly thickened and filled out, hair reveals air-light volume.  Comes in shampoo and styling products.

There are a lot of systems out there but the reason I talking about Rene Furterer products is because they have been around for over 20 years that uses pharmaceutical plant extracts and essential oils, and because I've seen results in not only myself but my clients that use it.

Yes, I use the Triphasic treatment and have been using it for over 12 weeks now and I've notice my hair getting thicker and my scalp feeling clean.  I have a few clients that are using the treatments and they are loving their results.

If you feel skeptical, go ahead and check out their website rene furterer or visit me (drewtylerhair) for a consultation and I'll give your first in salon treatment free.

I truly believe in this product and I know it can and is helping a lot of people with hair loss.

Fall 2009 Trend Watch

I'm a big fashion and trend watcher and I read a lot of magazines.  I read everything from Vogue to Launchpad.  It's filled with lot's of info from hair, makeup, and clothing.  So here are some things to watch for this fall.

Trend watch 1: Mixed up fabrics and textiles; supersized patterns; elaborate headgear as seen above from the Alexander McQueen show.

Trend Watch 2: Beatle bowl cuts; Carnaby Street shapes and influences; shimmery fabrics as seen above from 3.1 Phillip Lim.

Trend Watch 3Shiny, "shampoo commercial" hair; multi-cultural whimsy; style without sacrificing comfort as seen from Diane Von Furstenberg.

So here are your Trends to watch for this fall season.   Have fun!!!

LA Fashion Week and Maly's

All I can say is the past week has been BUSY!  For LA Fashion week (Los Angeles Fashion Week takes place each March (for fall collections) and October (for spring collections) in locations throughout the Los Angeles Area.) , I was able to do hair for Ximena Valero.  She wanted her models to have their hair slicked back with braids on one side.  The end result is the pic on the right.  The first pic is all the hair that we braided and attached into the models existing hair.  It was pretty cool.  Then on Friday I was able to do the FBI Launchpad Fashion show which featured these designers: Scooter Girls, So-Me Designs, Alana Hale, MARISKA, and Dzhavael.  The hair for these designers were more upstyle and messy on the side.  Almost like the Eva Longoria updo bob look.  That was pretty fun!

This morning I went to the Maly's Undressed Education seminar.  This is for hairdressers to take classes from Redken, L'Oreal, Sexy Hair, Pureology, Farouk, Matrix, etc...  I was able to take the Redken class with David Stanko, he is amazing.  David has been with Redken  for over 10 years and develops their color line and is a color expert.  I learned some really cool color techniques from him. Second session was with Sexy Hair with Michael O'Roark.  He is a very humble hairdresser and had really good business ethics to share.  The Sexy hair team was very energetic and rocked with their performance on stage.  Two artist were sharing the stage giving one girl a haircut while grooving with the dance beat of the music.  It was cool.  The last class I took was the L'Oreal.  It wasn't as good as the other two shows.  It was kind of boring but I did learn a great Upstyle technique, so that was well worth it.
And that my friends was what ended my week and weekend.
Thanks for reading!

What a day!

The wedding this morning was really neat.  It was in San Clemente right next to Nixon's old house looking over the ocean.  Then come to find out the house I was working in is where Nixon's secret service stayed.  The bride today was really occupied in organizing the rest of her day before her ceremony.  She didn't have much help from her bridal party.  It was nice to do some hair and makeup overlooking the ocean.  The bride and a couple of people ended up watching football on the 62' flatscreen in the room.  I was thinking I could get used to this.  I have so many weddings this month.  Not complaining just saying.
Oh so afterwards my car wouldn't start.  I guess the battery was going out.  Luckily, I was able to get it jumped. Went to Pep Boys and got a new battery.  Hoping it solves the problem.  We'll see tomorrow.

Hollywood Bowl

Wow, what a night!  I went to see Jason Mraz tonight at the Bowl, it was fantastic.  I've seen him numerous times but never at the bowl and I gotta say he is just as awesome as his other concerts.  Brent Dennen opened for him and G Love too.  Bushwalla Emceed the night.  I like the fact that Jason puts a lot of heart into his concerts.  He improves his songs and makes it fun.  I like his energy that he gives when performing.

My picnic was awesome.  Except when I realized I forgot the Cheese for the sandwiches.  They were still good without but would've been better with.  I also had a summer couscous, red pepper hummus with sweet potato tortilla chips.  A strawberry, blueberry, blackberry and Honey roasted Almond spring mix salad with rasberry vinigrette dressing.  I made hot cocoa out of scratch and it stayed hot in the thermos.  It was cool cause it got cold and it was much needed.  All in all it was a great hit and Jared liked it.  So that's what's important.

Ok gotta go to bed now cause I have a wedding in the morning at 10am in San Clemente.

Goodnight

Amazing Day!

So today was a great day!  I did a beautiful wedding at the 5 Crowns in Corona Del Mar.  My client Leise became a beautiful bride.  Oh yeah, remember the previous blog about bangs.  Yep, that's her.  She looked so beautiful. After that I rushed over to my friend Twixxy's to pick her up.  We had a interview in L.A. at All About Face.  The interview went very well and Twixxy and I are heading up the Dept. of Hair at All About Face now.  It's going to be a lot of work but well worth it.  I already am booked to do LA Fashion week this coming Wed. and Fri. I am soooooooo excited. This is definitely going to be an adventure I can't wait to jump into.

So after having an exciting day I met up with my guy Jared and we went to see Zombieland, it was so funny.  Certain scenes made me jump.  It has the feel of Shaun of the Dead.  By the way, Bill Murray was pretty awesome in the movie.  I give it a thumbs up and you should go see it!!!

All right gonna go to bed now.  I work at the salon in the morning and tomorrow evening I'm off to see Jason Mraz at the Hollywood Bowl.  I packed a picnic and am excited for tomorrow!

The start of a new Blog!

So this is it!  I am starting this blog and no one can stop me.  Lindsey 4theloveofhair.tumblr.com is the culprit of me doing this.  I figure this is a way I can talk about hair and anything else on my mind.  I promise I will keep this blog exciting and full of cool tips and tricks about hair, makeup, fashion, etc...!  Oh and sometimes random stuff.  Well, let's see today was nice.  A really chill day at the salon.  I discovered a lot about fringe.  There are so many ways to do them.  The popular one that I've been doing is the Anne Hathaway bangs in "The Devil Wears Prada".  It's cool cause it's a full bang that isn't heavy.  The texture takes out that heavy weighted look.  I do enjoy it alot and it looks really sexy.  My client tomorrow that is getting married has this look.  I'm doing her hair and makeup.  I am putting her hair up and she is keeping her bangs just like Anne's and I am putting the rest of her hair up.  I'll take a pic and show it on tomorrow's blog.  Oh by the way, I met a really cool photographer (Colin) yesterday at the salon.  He is friends with Brittany one of my co-workers and was going to take pics of her to help her with her headshots. As I was curling Brittany's hair he passed me his business card www.triplecord.com so I checked out the website and was amazed at the beautiful work of photography.
Ok that's all I have today, see you tomorrow.
